9. FREDERICK DOUGLASS HOME ON ALEXANDER STREET

This building at 4 Alexander Street was Douglass' home from shortly after he moved to Rochester until the early 1850's. He and his family later moved to a house located on South Avenue near the present-day School No. 12. The later Douglass home was destroyed by fire in 1872, after which Douglass moved to Washington, D.C.
